We need your input to help us develop our future business plan. Your feedback will be essential to help us test our assumptions and decisions ahead of submitting the plan to Ofgem.

What will the plan include?

We will identify and develop details for the following key areas ahead of submitting the plan to Ofgem:

  • How we will engage with you throughout delivery of the RIIO-T2 price control period
  • Our commitment to being a responsible developer in the communities which we operate in
  • How we will monitor, assess and maintain our existing network of overhead lines, underground cables, subsea cables and substations
  • Where we will expect to invest in new technologies and assets to ensure the network can meet increasing demands
  • How the networks will be used in the future
  • What skilled resource will be required to manage and maintain the network
  • What mechanisms of assessment will be used to measure our performance

Why should I be interested in ‘Your Plan, Our Future’?

The ongoing maintenance of existing equipment, investment in new technologies and workforce required to keep the lights on will be shared between all those using the transmission system, including generation developers and the GB electricity consumers.

To ensure we understand the preferences and thoughts of GB electricity customers whilst we develop the plan we will: engage widely with Customer and Consumer Representative Groups, Developers, Statutory Authorities, Academics, Elected Representatives, Local authorities and other interested groups. The purpose of our engagements will be to identify a balance between costs of our proposed investments against the value brought to the GB electricity consumer.

We will be testing our thoughts and proposals widely during 2018 and early 2019 ahead of firming decisions on the plan. To have your say, please register for updates or check our Consultation page.

As a proud operator of an essential service and critical national infrastructure, we must deliver a business plan that is fair, comprehensive and robust. We firmly believe that the preferences and priorities of our customers will add significant value. This is why we will use them to inform the Plan as it is developed and implemented.

As expected by Ofgem, the RIIO-2 process encourages us to: put stakeholders at the front of our decisions; invest efficiently to ensure a safe and reliable service is provided; innovate and reduce costs which are passed to consumers; and, play a key role in delivering a low carbon economy and wider environmental objectives.

We are presently engaging and working with Ofgem to fully understand the core themes and issues which will affect the industry during the next decade. Ofgem will present specific detail and requirement to meet the expected standards of the RIIO-2 process in summer 2018. Full details of the RIIO-2 process can be viewed via Ofgem dedicated webpage.

We will use a diverse approach whilst we engage across our key themes and proposals and commit to providing responses to all engagements undertaken.  We will be hosting events, conducting public consultations, attending seminars, and raising questions for discussion, all to understand what is important to electricity consumers and network users located in the north of Scotland.
