About the project
Shin Substation forms a critical part of the SSEN Transmission System, establishing a key interconnecting point on the 132kV transmission system and also supplying the local 33kV network (Grid Transformer 1 providing a connection for Shin Power Station, while Grid Transformer 2 & Grid Transformer 3 connects the local distribution network to the wider transmission system).
As part of its Transmission Licence and statutory obligations, SSEN Transmission has a number of duties including:
- the development and maintenance of an efficient, coordinated and economical system of electricity transmission,
- to facilitate competition in the supply and generation of electricity, and
- to ensure that the security of the network is maintained as the demand and/or generation connections change over time.
SSEN Transmission has a licence obligation to invest in its existing assets to maintain network health and condition. SHE Transmission also has a statutory duty under the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002 to ensure that the electricity transmission network is fit for purpose.
The circuit breakers to be installed are Siemens Clean Air Breakers a cleaner technology and will go towards helping the UK and Scottish Government to achieve net-zero emissions.
