Being a stakeholder-led business with a stakeholder-led strategy is something we’re really proud of. We work hard to meet the needs of all our stakeholders and customers; we collaborate and work in partnership with our stakeholders to overcome environmental, societal and economic challenges; and we advocate on behalf of our stakeholders to drive positive change along our pathway to Net Zero. Carrying out effective engagement with our stakeholders is crucial to our critical work and we are committed to delivering the highest stakeholder engagement standards.

Achieving the AccountAbility AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard

SSEN Transmission engages with stakeholders in line with AccountAbility’s AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard. The AA1000 Series of Standards represent a principles-based framework, used globally by businesses to demonstrate leadership and performance in accountability, responsibility, and sustainability. This is considered the ‘gold standard’ in stakeholder engagement accreditation.

We’re continuously improving

Our AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard score for 2020/21 was 73% with a rating of “Accomplished" in the AccountAbility Stakeholder Engagement Maturity Ladder. This is an 11% increase on our 2019/20 score and demonstrates our commitment to continuously improving our stakeholder engagement practice. Our latest AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard health-check performance, and the actions we’ve taken to improve our standards and engagement practice, ensure we deliver on AccountAbility’s principles of ‘Inclusivity’, ‘Materiality’ and ‘Responsiveness’ alongside and in alignment with our own engagement principles, co-developed with stakeholders. Together, these principles help us to: include different stakeholders to enrich our work, engage on material issues that matter to our stakeholders, and respond to stakeholder issues through our decision-making, dialogue and performance.
