The GB energy regulator, Ofgem, has today published a consultation on proposals to introduce an Advanced Procurement Mechanism, "which would fund transmission owners to book supply chain capacity in advance of certainty regarding project need''.

Commenting on Ofgem's consultation, a spokesperson for SSEN Transmission said:

"We welcome the publication of Ofgem's Advanced Procurement Mechanism consultation.  Securing the supply chain to deliver our energy security and clean power targets at the earliest opportunity is one of the key requirements to support the timely delivery of new and upgraded electricity transmission infrastructure.

"We now look forward to working with Ofgem, Government, our supply chain partners and wider industry through the consultation period to ensure the Advanced Procurement Mechanism is designed to enable us to engage our supply chain partners and secure the specialist equipment required to deliver and derisk the transmission network investments that are critical to accelerate delivering clean power and energy security, alongside encouraging inward investment in new and existing UK supply chains and associated skills development to support the clean energy transition."
