At SSEN Transmission, we want as many people as possible to be able to use our website. This means you should be able to:

PDF documents 

Some PDF documents are not fully accessible. This may include missing headings, poor reading order, or lack of tagging, which can make them difficult to use with assistive technologies.

  • What we’re doing: We are reviewing key documents and replacing them with accessible HTML versions, or providing a meaningful HTML summary, where possible.

Images without alternative text 

Some images may not have suitable alternative text, meaning people using screen readers may not be able to access the information they convey. 

  • WCAG 2.1 success criteria: 1.1.1 (Non-text Content) 
  • What we’re doing: We are reviewing existing pages to make sure all images have meaningful alternative text, and are adding alternative text to all new image uploads that are not decorative. 
  • Target fix date: April 2027 

Colour contrast issues 

Some parts of the website do not meet minimum colour contrast requirements, including our interactive project map, which can make content harder to read for some users. 

  • WCAG 2.1 success criteria: 1.4.3 (Contrast Minimum) 
  • What we’re doing: We are reviewing design components and will make sure future versions of the website meet colour contrast requirements. 
  • Target fix date: April 2028 

Video captions 

Some videos published on the website may not include captions. 

  • WCAG 2.1 success criteria: 1.2.2 (Captions – prerecorded) 
  • What we’re doing: We are working to ensure all new video content includes captions and reviewing key existing content. 
  • Target fix date: April 2027 

Keyboard navigation 

Some content on our website may not be operable using a keyboard, including the welcome pop-up and some of the navigation menu on our Open Data Portal.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility 

We are committed to improving accessibility across our website. This includes: 

  • building accessibility checks into our publishing processes 
  • reviewing and updating older content 
  • raising awareness of accessibility requirements across our business 

How we tested this website 

We have used the Wave accessibility plugin alongside a manual internal review to check the accessibility of the website.  

We have not carried out a formal accessibility audit of the website but intend to do so.
