SSEN Transmission to host community events ahead of A832 nighttime closure near Dundonnell

4 June 2026

We will be holding public information events to share updates on the full nighttime closure of the A832 near Dundonnell, required as part of ongoing works to prepare for the installation of the proposed Western Isles HVDC cable.

The closure will begin on Monday 24 August and continue for several weeks, with the previously proposed diversion via Gairloch in place throughout.

The information events will be held on Monday 8 June at the following times and locations:

  • 4–6pm, Aultbea Hall, Achnasheen, IV22 2JR
  • 7–9pm, Badcaul Church, Dundonnell, IV23 2QY

We are currently operating daytime single-lane closures on short sections of the road between Dundonnell and Fain Bridge to enable the replacement and upgrading of culverts. However, the planned nighttime closure, which will operate between 9pm and 7am, is required for activities that cannot be carried out safely under single-lane traffic management.

Niall Macleod, Project Director for SSEN Transmission, said:

“We know how important the A832 is for local residents, businesses and visitors, and we appreciate that any road closure can be disruptive. That is why we are holding these information events to provide further information on the closure and to provide people with the opportunity to ask questions.

These works are essential to prepare for the installation of the Western Isles HVDC cable, and the closure is required for culvert work that cannot be carried out under single-lane traffic management.

We would encourage anyone who would like to find out more to come along to one of our information events on Monday 8 June and speak with the team. We remain committed to keeping disruption to a minimum and completing the works as quickly and safely as possible.”
