SSEN Transmission publishes 2025/26 reports highlighting strong RIIO-T2 delivery and progress towards Clean Power 2030

SSEN Transmission has this week published its 2025/26 Annual Performance and Sustainability Reports, showcasing a year of continued progress in delivering the infrastructure required to support energy security, economic growth and clean power across the UK.

The reports reflect on SSEN Transmission's performance during 2025/26, while also marking the conclusion of the five-year RIIO-T2 price control period, highlighting the significant progress made since 2021 in growing and transforming the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland.

The Annual Performance Report demonstrates how SSEN Transmission completed the RIIO-T2 period having invested more than £6bn in the transmission network, maintained 99.999% network reliability, delivered every connection offer on time, connected substantially more renewable generation than originally anticipated and exceeded its target to deliver £100m of efficiency savings, with more than £240m of efficiencies expected to be delivered for consumers.

The report also highlights the significant growth achieved during RIIO-T2, including increasing renewable generation connected to the network from 6.75GW to 10.8GW, growing transmission assets from £2.97bn to £6.63bn, reducing operational greenhouse gas emissions by 31%, and expanding the workforce from 719 colleagues to more than 2,800 by the end of the price control period.

Alongside looking back on RIIO-T2, the report outlines continued progress in delivering SSEN Transmission's £29bn investment programme during 2025/26, with around 75% of the major consents required across the programme now secured, construction advancing on key projects including the Eastern Green Link 2 and the Orkney Link, and work commencing at both the Netherton and Banniskirk Hubs.

The Annual Sustainability Report details progress across SSEN Transmission's sustainability ambitions, including transmitting enough renewable electricity to power 12.7 million homes, achieving a sector-leading SF6 leakage rate of 0.10%, delivering more than 19% Biodiversity Net Gain, awarding around £3m through community benefit funds during the year, supporting the construction of more than 600 homes through its housing strategy, and maintaining an industry-leading stakeholder engagement performance.
