A garden at a sheltered housing complex in Kintore has been given a new lease of life, thanks to the efforts of SSEN Transmission volunteers who answered a call to help spruce up the space ahead of VE Day celebrations.

The team from the Kintore substation project joined members of Kintore and District Community Council and other volunteers to carry out groundwork at Provost Lawrence Court, creating an area for residents to enjoy as part of the festivities earlier this month.

As well as moving six tonnes of topsoil, the volunteers helped build and fill a raised plantermaking it accessible for wheelchair users, and laid paving slabs to enable a better walking surface for residents. They also tidied flowerbeds and installed a decorative centrepiece.

Rob said: “We’re committed to giving back to local communities where our infrastructure is located, and we were delighted to answer the call from Kintore and District Community Council to spruce up the garden at Provost Lawrence Court.

“The Kintore substation team has a great relationship with the community council who do so much good work in the local area, and we’d like to thank them for the opportunity to be involved – as well as providing refreshments to keep us going!

“We hope the people enjoy the garden as much as we enjoyed helping make a small difference – we’re always looking for opportunities to volunteer in the local area, and we’ll next be in action at Halfpenny Farm Animal Sanctuary where we’re looking forward tomeeting the residents!”

Kintore and District Community Council Chair Moira Moran said: “The community council and residents of Provost Lawrence Court are very grateful for the assistance of the SSEN Transmission team to improve the appearance and usability of their garden grounds. It has a made a huge difference.”
