Public invited to share views on proposed Blarghour wind farm connection in Argyll
Consultation event to be held in Inveraray on Thursday 5 March, 2-7pm
Local residents, businesses and community groups are being invited to share their views on revised plans for a new overhead line that would connect the proposed Blarghour Wind Farm in Argyll to the national electricity transmission network.
The project proposes the construction of a new 132kV overhead line, approximately 12km in length, running from the proposed wind farm site between Loch Fyne and Loch Awe to the new Creag Dhubh substation. This connection is essential to allow the 67.2MW wind farm to export power to the grid, supporting the flow of homegrown renewable energy and contributing to local resilience of supply, as well as national clean power and energy security ambitions.
To share information about the project and gather local feedback, we will be hosting a public consultation event at Loch Fyne Hotel, Inveraray, on Thursday 5 March from 2–7pm. Anyone with an interest in the proposals is warmly encouraged to attend, view the plans and speak directly with the project team.
Consultation events for this project were previously held in 2022 and 2023. However, ground investigation works carried out following the 2023 consultation confirmed that the previously identified preferred route could not be delivered as planned. As a result, new route options have been developed, and we are now seeking views on the newly identified potential Route 3.
Louise Anderson, Lead Community Liaison Manager at SSEN Transmission, said:
“We are keen to hear from the communities who know this area best. This event is an opportunity to meet our team, learn more about the overhead line options we are considering, and share any local knowledge or feedback that could help shape the project.
The consultation remains open until 2 April, and all information will be available online for anyone unable to attend in person. We would encourage anyone with an interest to get in touch and ensure their views are heard.
Working closely with the local community is extremely important to us, and we will carefully consider all feedback as we develop these proposals further.”
Further details about the project, including maps, background information and consultation materials, can be found by visiting the project page.
The consultation will remain open until Thursday 2 April.
