Stornoway event to share information on proposed Grid Supply Point project
SSEN Transmission will host an information session in Stornoway to share details of its proposals to redevelop the Stornoway Grid Supply Point (GSP).
The event will take place at the Cabarfeidh Hotel next Thursday, 26 February, from 3–7pm.
The project is required to support the continuing growth of clean power generation in the Western Isles and enhance security of supply through the local distribution network.
The information session will provide an update on the project scope and site selection for the proposed new GSP, which will be located near to the existing site off the A859, south of Marybank.
The redevelopment will allow the installation of two new grid transformers, which will connect to the Lewis Hub and wider distribution network, as well as associated equipment and building infrastructure. This is essential to enabling and managing the flow of energy to ensure future network efficiency and resilience. The transformers in place at the existing GSP site will be decommissioned.
Kevin Morrison, Community Liaison Manager for SSEN Transmission, said:
“We are holding this information event ahead of our pre-application process for the GSP project, which is an important step towards submitting our full planning application.
Feedback from the local community is vital in helping us shape our proposals, and we would encourage anyone with an interest to come along to the Cabarfeidh Hotel on Thursday, 26 February. Our team will be on hand to share information and answer any questions.”
