Local businesses invited to unlock opportunities as Netherton Hub powers ahead
11 March 2026
SSEN Transmission is inviting businesses across the north-east to learn more about the extensive pipeline of supply chain opportunities linked to the delivery of the Netherton Hub.
A ‘Meet the Buyer’ event will run from 10am–2pm on Wednesday 25 March at Peterhead FC’s Balmoor Stadium, giving companies the chance to engage with the teams delivering two new AC substations, as well as the HVDC converter station and cable for the Spittal to Peterhead subsea link.
The Netherton Hub forms a key part of our plans to invest around £29 billion in the period until March 2030 to modernise and reinforce the electricity network across the north of Scotland, supporting the country’s clean energy and energy security ambitions.
As seen with the Eastern Green Link 2 project – already responsible for contributing more than £9 million to the local economy – the Netherton Hub is expected to generate substantial economic activity and new opportunities for local businesses in the north-east.
The Meet the Buyer event will highlight a wide range of opportunities across multiple sectors, including:
- Internal doors and joinery
- Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E)
- Roof access systems
- Painting and decorating
- Scaffolding
- Fire protection and control
- Pest control
- Forklift/telehandler
- Off-site storage
- Worker transportation
- Catering
- Fencing and materials
- Earthworks
- Drone/CCTV/drainage surveys
- Landscaping and forestry
- Brick, blockwork, stone masonry and stone walling
- Quarry materials
- Local plant hire and tool supply
- Builders’ merchants (ducting, drainage, consumables, environmental materials)
- Local labour suppliers
Ryan Wallace, SSEN Transmission’s Deputy Project Director for the Netherton Hub, said:
“The Meet the Buyer event taking place at Peterhead FC’s stadium on 25 March is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to find out how they can play a role in delivering the Netherton Hub and associated Spittal to Peterhead subsea cable project. From joinery and earthworks to catering and plant hire, there is a wide variety of work available across the lifecycle of this major project.
Investment in our transmission network is a powerful driver of jobs and regional economic growth, and we’ve already seen how Eastern Green Link 2 has delivered over £9 million of local economic benefit in the Peterhead area.
With the Netherton Hub set to bring another major wave of investment to the north-east, we’re encouraging local suppliers to come along, meet our project teams and contractors, and explore how they can get involved in a project that will support local employment, skills and economic growth.”
