SSEN Transmission to host consultation event on proposed 132kV overhead line north of Peterhead

17 March 2026

We are holding a second public consultation event on proposals to construct a new 132kV overhead line in an area north of Peterhead. The overhead line is required to connect the proposed Salamander Offshore Wind Farm to the existing transmission network.

The event will take place from 3 – 7pm on Tuesday 24 March at Peterhead FC’s Balmoor Stadium.

At the event, our project team will present the route options currently under consideration for the proposed overhead line between Peterhead and St Fergus, including a potential preferred route. Information will also be shared on an associated compound location, where the new overhead line would connect into the existing transmission infrastructure.

Members of the community and local stakeholders are invited to attend, ask questions, and provide feedback. Consultation responses are welcomed until 5 May 2026, when the engagement period formally closes.

Phillip Cowie, Project Manager at SSEN Transmission, said:

“As the transmission network operator for the north of Scotland, we enable electricity generators to connect to the transmission system, transporting the power they produce to where it’s needed by homes and businesses. By providing these connections, we ensure that electricity can be efficiently transmitted to areas of demand across the country.

The proposed overhead line and compound are essential components required to connect the Salamander Offshore Wind Farm to our network, contributing to Scotland and the UK’s clean power and energy security ambitions.

We’re keen to hear directly from the local community and stakeholders, and this consultation event is an important opportunity for people to review our proposed route options and provide feedback.”
