SSEN Transmission invites communities and local businesses to Dunoon ‘Meet the Buyer’ event ahead of upcoming overhead line project
2 April 2026
We are inviting local residents, community groups and businesses in Dunoon to attend an information and ‘Meet the Buyer’ drop-in event ahead of the start of construction of the Dunoon Overhead Line Rebuild Project.
The drop‑in session will give attendees the opportunity to find out more about the planned works, speak directly with the project team and learn about potential supply chain and employment opportunities linked to the project.
The event will take place on Wednesday 15 April from 2pm to 6pm at Dunoon Burgh Hall.
Our representatives, alongside principal contractor Omexom, will be on hand throughout the afternoon to answer questions and provide further insight into what the works will involve and how they will be delivered.
The Dunoon Overhead Line Rebuild Project involves replacing the existing double circuit 132kV overhead line connecting Dunoon to the national grid, enhancing the resilience of the local electricity network and replacing ageing infrastructure, some of which dates back to the 1970s. The investment will help future‑proof the transmission network across Argyll and Bute, supporting long‑term reliability and security of supply.
The project received its Section 37 consent from Scottish Ministers in October 2025, with construction expected to get underway this summer.
The event is open to anyone with an interest in the project, including local residents, landowners, community representatives and businesses keen to learn more about the works and how they will be delivered.
Alongside the project information session, a dedicated Meet the Buyer element will give local businesses the opportunity to engage directly with the principal contractor and explore potential roles within the project’s supply chain.
The Dunoon Overhead Line Rebuild Project is expected to create opportunities for local companies across a wide range of services, including accommodation, security, catering, cleaning, aggregate supply, local labour, plant hire, road gritting, and building and wholesale merchants. Businesses operating in these and related sectors are encouraged to attend to find out how they could support the delivery of the project.
Paul Ferguson, Project Manager for SSEN Transmission, said:
“This project represents a significant investment in the electricity network for Dunoon and the wider Argyll and Bute area, and we’re committed to ensuring the benefits are felt locally wherever possible.
The Meet the Buyer event is a great opportunity for local businesses to learn more about the project, speak directly with our delivery partners, and explore how they can play a part in supporting the works - from construction related services through to accommodation, catering and local supply. We’d encourage any interested businesses to come along and find out more.”
