Overview
About the Project
The aim of this project is to create a new Transmission connection between the existing Kergord Substation and the proposed Northern Substation Hub. This will meet the requirements of existing contracted customers on Shetland and make provision for future projected network users. The scope is proposed to include circuits linking the existing Kergord Substation, and the proposed Northern Substation Hub, along with a new substation along the route. The project is currently in early development, with further details to be shared as we progress.
Why is the Project Required?
Facilitate the interconnection of the two HVDC links (1st 600MW link and 2nd 1800MW link) to maximise available capacity on both HVDC systems throughout each year.
Provide a Shetland mainland transmission corridor from a substation in the north of the Shetland mainland (near Scatsta airport / Sullom Voe O&G terminal) – to accommodate the connection from Yell, nearby demand, ScotWind and the 2nd HVDC link) to the existing Kergord 132kV substation (located towards the centre of the Shetland mainland where the first HVDC link and Gremista GSP connects into).
Virtual Consultation Room
We have created a virtual consultation room to share our materials and provide an avenue for feedback/questions to be raised with our project team in regards to the Pre-Application Consultation of Kergord 2 substation and Northern Shetland 220kV to Kergord 132kV Overhead Line. This room provides accessibility to those that were unable to attend our in person events.
Community Engagement
Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing. This is particularly important when we are developing a proposal and we want to understand what local people think about our plans.
We endeavour to take the time to discuss proposals with local community councils, encourage engagement from the wider community and listen to the feedback we receive.
We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.
When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area and as many long term positive effects as possible.
How we’re embracing artificial intelligence (AI)
We intend to use AI to assist our experienced teams in the analysis of your feedback, so we can categorise key points raised more quickly. You can learn more about how we’re utilising AI on this dedicated web page.
