Overview
About the Project
In November 2018, the existing steel lattice tower 279 on the Fort Augustus to Skye 132kV overhead line (OHL) was brought down during a landslide event. A temporary wood pole OHL was constructed to maintain supply between the existing towers 278 and 280.
We applied for consent from The Highland Council to build access points off the C1144, and this work is due to commence in Spring 2021, subject to obtaining consent. Once completed, this will enable us to replace the section of the temporary OHL, which is due to be energised in August 2021. Three NeSTS 132kV double circuit poles will replace five lattice structures. After completing the new OHL, we will remove the temporary wood pole line during August and September 2021.
We have future-proofed the design by accommodating the double circuit conductors planned for the Skye connection, which will also enable the stakeholders for that project to look at one of its support structure options.
The community will see an increase in traffic with lorries delivering stone to build the access tracks and crane pad. We always look to minimise the impact our work has on the local community wherever possible.
