Strathy Wood Wind Farm Connection

Overview

About the Project

The Proposed Development would commence from a new cable sealing end compound near to Strathy Wood Wind Farm on-site substation and head north to connect to the existing network initially via a ‘T’ onto the existing Strathy North 132 kV trident ‘H’ wood pole (OHL) which would transport the electricity generated from Strathy Wood Wind Farm to the existing Connagill 275/132 kV substation for onward transmission. Following the construction of a new steel lattice OHL, from within the vicinity of the ‘T’ point to the Connagill 275/132 kV substation, the Proposed Development would then join that new steel lattice OHL at the ‘T’ point. This would allow the Proposed Development to also act as ‘shared infrastructure’ for part of the connection for the consented Strathy South Wind Farm. The Strathy South Wind Farm Northern Section Grid Connection will be subject to a separate section 37 application. This phased approach would allow renewable electricity generated by Strathy Wood Wind Farm to be exported to the electricity network sooner, whilst also providing opportunities for shared infrastructure in the longer term.

Why is the Project Required

The Proposed Development is to construct and operate approximately 4.5 kilometres (km) of new 132 Kilovolt (kV) overhead line (OHL), to connect the consented Strathy Wood Wind Farm to the electricity transmission network.

Under our Network Operators Licence we are required to provide connections for five proposed wind farms in the Strathy area, collectively known as the Connagill Cluster.

Community Engagement

Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing. This is particularly important when we are developing a proposal and we want to understand what local people think about our plans.

We endeavour to take the time to discuss proposals with local community councils, encourage engagement from the wider community and listen to the feedback we receive.

We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.

When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area and as many long term positive effects as possible.

How we’re embracing artificial intelligence (AI)
We intend to use AI to assist our experienced teams in the analysis of your feedback, so we can categorise key points raised more quickly. You can learn more about how we’re utilising AI on this dedicated web page.
