SSEN Transmission are moving the Caithness to Orkney Link project into the construction phase. The project was consented in 2019, and all planning conditions are now in place allowing the project to go into construction.
There are four parts to the project:
- A new substation outside Finstown.
- An onshore underground HVAC cable from the substation to Warebeth.
- A subsea HVAC cable from Warebeth to Dounreay.
- A new substation at Dounreay West.
Over the past 12 months the team have welcomed community members to Information events, met with residents and attended school and community events to keep you informed of the project. We are establishing a Community Liaison Group which will meet regularly to ensure communication flows between the team and community members.
Our next event is being hosted primarily to provide updates to the local community on overall project progress with a particular (but by no means limited to) focus on the underground cable route and associated compound.
We invite you to drop in to Stenness Community Hall to ask any questions which you may have, speak to team members and hear what happens in the construction phase.
