Introducing our first economic report

Scotland stands at a defining moment in its economic and energy history. The decisions taken this decade will shape not only how we power our homes and businesses, but how we deliver long-term prosperity for communities across the country. Our first Economic Report, Re-energising the North: Transforming Scotland, sets out both the scale of that opportunity and our commitment to turning it into reality.

How grid investment powers economic growth

Delivering our £29bn Pathway to 2030 investment programme ensures the UK's electricity network is ready to convert Scotland's exceptional renewable resource into long-term economic value.

Advanced economic modelling

In this report we use advanced macroeconomic modelling, validated by the renowned Fraser of Allander Institute, to assess how our investment supports growth in GDP, productivity and wages across both the Scottish and UK economies, helping to transform Scotland’s economy over the long term.

Through enhanced input-output modelling we show how this investment supports a stronger and more resilient economy in the north of Scotland, moving the region onto a higher growth path, one where output grows faster, earlier and for longer.

Read the economic report in full or explore the spotlight appendices which summarise how our planned investments can support local priorities across individual council areas. Each spotlight outlines the scale of investment and the potential local benefits across five cross-cutting themes. Together, they show how grid investment can be translated into local opportunity by supporting jobs, strengthening supply chains, supporting communities and delivering a lasting legacy across Scotland.

We have pledged to support the delivery of 1,000 new homes as part of our Pathway to 2030 programme. By addressing housing challenges in rural areas, we will contribute to the region’s economic growth, improve living conditions, and leave a lasting legacy for the communities.
