Staff from SSEN Transmission were among the visitors to flock to Highland Sheep 2025, where the team from the proposed Carnaig substation project were on hand to speak to visitors at the event organised by the National Sheep Association.

Held at Midfearn Farm near Ardgay by the Dornoch Firth, the exhibition event welcomed farmers, crofters and agricultural professionals from across the Highlands, with the Carnaig substation team manning its own stand among other exhibitors.

An energy wordsearch and STEM activity circuit board were among the activities on offer at the stand, with one lucky family wining a ticket to Aberdeen Science Centre thanks to SSEN Transmission’s sponsorship of the Centre’s interactive Energy Zone.

The proposed Carnaig subsation project is a key element of the transmission network operator’s proposed Spittal – Beauly 400kV overhead line connection and will help deliver clean renewable power for connection to homes and businesses across the UK – helping meet Scotland and the UK’s clean power and energy security ambitions.

Martin Godwin, SSEN Transmission’s Community Liaison Manager, commented: “It was great to visit Highland Sheep 2025 to share information on the project and to talk more broadly about our investment to upgrade the grid, including the economic benefits it will bring to communities across the north of Scotland.

“As well as welcoming visitors to our stand, we had the chance to tour the venue and gain valuable insights into the importance of sheep farming in the Highlands and the hard work of those involved in this important industry.

“At SSEN Transmission we are committed to building relationships in the local communities where our projects are based, and this event offered a great opportunity to speak with local people about our plans. Our thanks go to the organisers and all those involved in making this such an enjoyable event.”
