Overview
Public Consultation Events, Eday and Rendall, Orkney, September 2025
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us at our first events in September where we introduced the Eday project.
We are now holding our next set of events which will focus on the shortlisted landfall sites and initial marine cable corridor options.
We are continuing our assessment of potential GSP sites on Eday for the proposed GSP. We are currently identifying sites to take forward for more detailed assessment.
Consultation events will take place on:
Wednesday the 5th of November 11 - 3pm Eday Heritage Centre, KW17 2AB
Thursday 6th of November 3 - 7pm Firth Hall, Finstown, KW17 2EQ
We will also be holding an online event on the evening of Thursday 13th November, we are aware that there was a problem with registration for this event, we are working on this and will let you know when the problem is fixed.
About the Project
The aim of the Eday GSP project is to connect the island of Eday to the Electricity Transmission Link on Mainland Orkney. To do this, a new Grid Supply Point (GSP) on the island of Eday is required, to which Distribution customers will connect to. The GSP will be linked to the transmission network via a high voltage alternating current (HVAC) 132kV cable circuit. There are three components to this cable circuit; the onshore route between the Eday GSP and subsea landfall point on Eday, the cable route subsea connecting the islands, and the onshore route between mainland Orkney landfall and the Finstown substation (project currently under construction).
Why is the Project Required?
Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission has a licence requirement to provide a connection to the UK’s transmission network when requested by a generator. The Eday GSP project is being driven by the need to connect contracted generators via Distribution to the transmission network. This will allow generators to export electricity to the wider UK transmission system.
Community Engagement
Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing. This is particularly important when we are developing a proposal and we want to understand what local people think about our plans.
We endeavour to take the time to discuss proposals with local community councils, encourage engagement from the wider community and listen to the feedback we receive.
We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.
When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area and as many long term positive effects as possible.

How we’re embracing artificial intelligence (AI)
We intend to use AI to assist our experienced teams in the analysis of your feedback, so we can categorise key points raised more quickly. You can learn more about how we’re utilising AI on this dedicated web page.
