Overview
Planning Application
Under Section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989 we have applied to Scottish Ministers for the installation of downleads measuring approximately 204m in total, from one replacement tower on the Tealing to Arbroath 132kV OHL circuit (new tower consented under Overhead Lines (Exemption) (Scotland) Regulations 2013), into a consented substation compound (subject to a separate consent as part of the Tealing 80MW BESS Development), located approximately 4km east of Tealing in the local authority area of Angus Council..
Should you wish to view our application in full and submit formal comment to the Scottish Ministers it is available to be viewed via the Energy Consent Units (ECU’s) application portal, using reference ECU00005064.
Any representations in respect of the application may be submitted by email to the Scottish Government via representations@gov.scot; or by post to the Scottish Government, Energy Consents Unit, 4th Floor, 5 Atlantic Quay, 150 Broomielaw, Glasgow, G2 8LU, identifying the proposal and specifying the grounds for representation.
All the documentation submitted as part of the application can also be viewed and downloaded via the 'Documents' section of this website.
A hard copy of the Environmental Appraisal is also available to be viewed at the following location:

About the Project
An independent Distribution Network Operator (iDNO), Eclipse Power Networks Limited made an application to SSEN Transmission for the connection of a Solar and Battery Energy Storage Facility, to the grid.
A new 132/33kV Grid Supply Point (GSP) substation will be constructed to facilitate the connection of the Solar Farm and Battery site with a Transmission Entry Capacity (TEC) of 80MW approximately 5km North from the existing Tealing 132/275kV substation.
This new GSP will be connected to one side of the 132kV double circuit Transmission overhead line (OHL) between Tealing and Arbroath.
Why is the Project Required?
We have a licence obligation to ensure that we can provide adequate transmission capacity to facilitate connections to customers in the North of Scotland who wish to connect to, and use, the transmission system to participate in the national wholesale electricity market. The connection of Tealing Solar and Storage will contribute to the generation of renewable energy across Scotland contributing to a low carbon future and towards Scotland’s and the UK’s net zero targets.
Community Engagement
Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing. This is particularly important when we are developing a proposal, and we want to understand what local people think about our plans.
We endeavour to take the time to discuss proposals with local community councils, encourage engagement from the wider community and listen to the feedback we receive.
We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.
When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area and as many long term positive effects as possible.
Other Projects in the Area
We have several projects in and around the Tealing area that are at various stages. To find out more for each project please click on the corresponding link below to be taken to each project’s dedicated webpage.
We know that local stakeholders are keen to understand the full extent of renewable developments being proposed in their local area.
Applications from the likes of wind farms to connect to the transmission network are made to the National Energy System Operator (NESO) and undergo a lengthy process before we begin to develop a network connection for developments applying in our license area.
We aim to be transparent about the renewable developments looking to connect to our network but are not permitted to disclose any details of these developments until they are in the public domain.
A list of projects that hold contracts for Transmission Entry Capacity (TEC) with NESO is available from their website that you can access here.
How we’re embracing artificial intelligence (AI)
We intend to use AI to assist our experienced teams in the analysis of your feedback, so we can categorise key points raised more quickly. You can learn more about how we’re utilising AI on this dedicated web page.
