Overview
Alignment Options Public Consultation Event
We are pleased to be hosting a public consultation event for the alignment options for the proposed Fasnakyle – Bingally connection.
During our face-to-face, drop-in consultation you will be able to view information about our proposed plans for the connection, meet the project team, ask questions and share feedback.
We would encourage members of the local community and all interested parties to attend the event.
The event will be held on:
Date: 25 August 2025
Time: 3.30pm-7pm
Venue: Cannich Hall, Cannich, IV4 7LJ
If you are unable to attend the public event, all the material will be available to download from the documents section of this webpage from 11 August 2025.
Please let us know if you require information in an adapted format such as paper copy, large print or braille and we will work with you to accommodate your preferences. We are happy to accommodate all reasonable requests for adapted communications.
Please note this event is being jointly held with our Tomchrasky wind farm connection project where we will also be presenting alignment options for this connection.
Any comments made to us as the Applicant are not representations to Scottish Ministers as the decision makers. There will be an opportunity to make formal representations to Scottish Ministers via the Energy Consents Unit following the submission of the section 37 application.
About the Project
Subject to planning consent, we are required to provide a new 132kV connection between the existing Fasnakyle 275kV substation to the proposed Bingally 400kV substation, to allow connection onto the wider transmission network.
To facilitate this new 132kV connection, we are proposing to utilise existing towers , along with new equipment at a transition location, (in the form of a cable sealing end compound), and a new underground cable between the cable sealing end compound and the proposed Bingally 400kV substation. The proposed routes are up to 10 km in length.
Why is the Project Required?
As part of our statutory and transmission licence obligations, we have a number of duties including:
- the development and maintenance of an efficient, coordinated and economical system of electricity transmission
- to facilitate competition in the supply and generation of electricity
- to ensure that the security of the network is maintained as the demand and/or generation connections change over time
We have a licence obligation to invest in our existing assets to maintain network health and condition. We also have a statutory duty under the Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002 to ensure that the electricity transmission network is fit for purpose.

Community Engagement
Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing. This is particularly important when we are developing a proposal and we want to understand what local people think about our plans.
We endeavour to take the time to discuss proposals with local community councils, encourage engagement from the wider community and listen to the feedback we receive.
We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.
When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area and as many long term positive effects as possible.
How we’re embracing artificial intelligence (AI)
We intend to use AI to assist our experienced teams in the analysis of your feedback, so we can categorise key points raised more quickly. You can learn more about how we’re utilising AI on this dedicated web page.
