SSEN Transmission Stannergate 132kV Substation and Network Rail Feeder Station Planning Application
Following the pre-application consultation feedback event that we hosted in August of last year at the Apex Hotel in Dundee please be advised we have now submitted our planning application to Dundee City Council for the proposed Stannergate 132kV substation and Network Rail feeder station project.
The primary drivers for the new 132kV substation in the Stannergate area are SSEN Transmission’s obligation for asset upgrades and reinforcements and a new 132kV connection request from Network Rail.
Now approaching 60 years of service, many of the Transmission assets in Dundee have either exceeded or are nearing the end of their economic and operational capability. We are therefore proposing to build a new 132kV substation in the Stannergate area (near Dundee Harbour). This site will provide a location to replace the existing Dudhope substation, which helps provide power to Dundee. In addition, our proposals for this project include a new 132kV feeder station to support Network Rail’s ambitions to electrify the rail network within Scotland’s Central Belt.
Our planning application to construct and operate the Stannergate 132kV substation and Network Rail feeder station located at land bounded by East Dock Street, Market Street and Broughty Ferry Road, Stannergate, Dundee, has been made to Dundee City Council under reference 25/00359/FULN. A copy of the voluntary Environmental Assessment is also available to be viewed and downloaded via the documents section of this webpage where you will find all the associated documents for this project.

About the Project
SSEN Transmission are developing proposals to replace and upgrade Dundee’s high voltage electricity network.
Now approaching 60 years of service, many of the Transmission assets in Dundee have either exceeded or are nearing the end of their economic and operational capability. We are therefore consulting on proposals to build a new 132kV substation in the Stannergate area (near Dundee Harbor). Community Engagement
Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing. This is particularly important when we are developing a proposal and we want to understand what local people think about our plans.
We endeavour to take the time to discuss proposals with local community councils, encourage engagement from the wider community and listen to the feedback we receive.
We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.
When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area and as many long term positive effects as possible.

May/August 2024 feedback period now closed
We would like to extend thanks to all members of the public, local stakeholders and other interested parties who took the time to attend our consultation events and provide feedback on our proposals for the Stannergate 132kV Substation and Network Rail Feeder Station.
The feedback period for providing comments following the events we held in May and August 2024 closed on 05 September 2024. All responses received are being reviewed and considered by the project team ahead of our formal planning submission to Dundee City Council.
Although the consultation period has closed, we will continue to engage with all effected stakeholders and aim to provide a further update when the planning application is submitted. -
Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) feedback event
We are holding the second of our statutory pre-application consultation events for our proposed Stannergate 132kV substation and Network Rail feeder station project. We would like to thank those who took the time to attend our first event in May this year and submitted feedback.
During our consultation event you will be able to view further information about our proposed substation and feeder station site, our responses to feedback received from the last events, meet the project team, ask questions and share further comments.
We would encourage members of the local community and all interested parties to attend the event.

May 2024 Feedback Period Closed
Thank you to all members of the community and interested parties that took the time to provide feedback on our proposals for the Stannergate 132kV substation and Network Rail feeder station.
The feedback period following the public consultation that we held on 16 May has now closed.
The project team will now collate and carefully consider the feedback received before hosting the second Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) event on 15 August 2024 where we will present a summary of the feedback received at and following our first PAC event.
At this second event we will present our developing design proposals again, which will form the basis of a planning application for submission. -
