About the Project
The project will allow for the supply and export of contracted renewable generation on Yell, by developing and constructing a transmission connection to mainland Shetland, which will then export via the Shetland HVDC Link and on to the GB grid. To enable these connections, the following project elements are required:
A new 220kV/132kV Substation located on Yell to connect Energy Isles and Beaw Field Windfarms .
A new 220kV connection from Yell Substation to mainland Shetland. This will consist of a 220kV land and subsea circuit between Yell and mainland Shetland.
Community Engagement
Throughout the life of our projects, we aim to work positively with local communities and keep people informed about what we are doing. This is particularly important when we are developing a proposal and we want to understand what local people think about our plans.
We endeavour to take the time to discuss proposals with local community councils, encourage engagement from the wider community and listen to the feedback we receive.
We will do our best to answer any questions and address issues or concerns that are raised with us.
When our project progresses into construction, we will continue working closely with the local community to ensure that our work has as little impact on the lives of those living and working in the area and as many long term positive effects as possible.
How we’re embracing artificial intelligence (AI)

Yell High Voltage Alternating Current (HVAC) Connection - Marine consultation event
We are holding a consultation event for the marine element of our proposed Yell HVAC Connection project, including potential landfalls.
During this consultation event, you will be able to meet the project team and view information on our proposal to install a HVAC subsea cable that will connect Yell to the Transmission system on Mainland Shetland.
We would like to invite members of the public and interested parties to view our early-stage plans, ask questions, and share local insights that will help shape our marine licence application. Your knowledge and input are vital in helping us understand how our proposals may interact with fishing activity in the area.
The events will be held at the following locations:
Wednesday 25 June, 2–6:45pm - Burravoe Hall, Burravoe, Yell, ZE2 9AY
Thursday 26 June, 2–7pm - Voe Public Hall, Voe, Shetland, ZE2 9PT
The feedback period is open until 7 August and you can provide feedback using the online feedback form.

Please note, as our team works on a voluntary basis, it may take us some time to coordinate our people and match them with opportunities. South Yell Switching Station Information Event
On the 17th May 2023, members of the public were invited to an information event for the proposed South Yell Switching Station at the Burravoe Public Hall.
